Macaroni and Cheese ~ recipe for Julie!

Ok, Julie ~ here's the Mueller's Macaroni and Cheese recipe that my grandmother makes every holiday or she isn't allowed in the house. LOL My brother and I fight over leftovers and well, it's goooooooooood! Enjoy. To answer your other question about the kosher salt in Katie Joel's banana bread recipe...I don't know ~ I figured if she called for kosher salt, best use it. If you tinker with it, let me know if table salt is ok.
Happy Cooking!
Tanya

Macaroni and Cheese
2 tbsp flour
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp dry mustard
1/4 tsp pepper
2-1/2 cups milk
2 tbsp Margarine or butter
2 cups shredded American or Cheddar cheese, divided
8 oz Mueller's Elbows (about 2 cups), cooked 5 minutes and drained

Directions

In medium saucepan combine flour, salt, dry mustard and pepper; stir in milk.
Add margarine.
Stirring constantly, bring to a boil over medium-high heat and boil 1 minute.
Remove from heat.
Stir in 1-3/4 cups cheese until melted.
Add elbows.
Pour into greased 2-quart casserole.
Sprinkle with reserved cheese.
Bake uncovered in 375 degree oven 25 minutes or until lightly browned.

Hello Tanya! Thank you for the recipe! I'll plan on making it this weekend.
The recipe I threw out wasn't one of yours, but my first attempt at homemade mac and cheese. My grandmother made it for me a few weekends ago and it was great. I thought it couldn't be too hard and tried it without a recipe and it just didn't work. I don't think I had enough milk or cheese it in.
Your grandmother's recipe sounds great and I really am looking forward to trying it.

You'll love it...maybe TOO much. LOL The key is to stir that cheese into the milk to thicken - that's what take the time but oh so worth it.
